Best crab rangoons. Our family loves the food so much we don't care that the place needs to be blown up and renovated. Great food and service for a good price. Thank you wu

I pass many Chinese restaurants on my way from north kingstown to west warwick. This is by far the best. The food is so delicious every time we go which is often. The scorpion bowls are great too. I asked the waitress how long the cook has been there since I find the food so consistent. She said 30 years. And the prices are excellent as well.

I am not from this part of Rhode island but I went here for the first time and it was horrible. I ordered a boneless spare ribs combination plate and it sucked. The ribs were dry, plain, no flavor and over cooked. The rice was the exact same way. I will not order from here anymore.

Place is clean and friendly. For me, it kind of ends there. There was really nothing at the table that we ate that we found to be 'good.' We did not partake of the drinks. I will say from the reviews that I have read and the size of the crowed at the bar, that really may be there focus. I will say the portions were huge and the price of the items pretty good, so as to give you a lot for your money. However, if flavor is what you are after, I am not sure this will do it for you. If you are there to drink, and make sure you have some food in your stomach, this place is probably a great place to go.

I've been coming here for about 20 years and I've always gotten the exact same dish because I love it too much to try something else. Staff is great- very friendly and leave you enough time to not feel like they're all over you. They'll make changes to the menu if you ask nicely. I always get boneless chicken combo with the rice and chow mein. I ask for sticky wing sauce on the side instead of brown gravy because their sticky wing sauce is SLAMMIN'. Try it! Their egg rolls are also awesome and huge, in fact all portions are very large. I'm not an alcohol person and neither is anyone in my family, but the people at the bar always seem a little sketchy, but the bar is positioned away from the dining area so that you don't need to be in interaction with anyone if you don't want to. Otherwise, great prices, friendly staff, large portions and delicious food. Give it a shot!

Ah, the place my parents would take us for good report cards, or to get take out on the odd saturday night when we didn;t have enough leftovers for a leftover night. I remember the waitresses always fancying up the sprites we got with umbrellas and fruit like they were tacky tiki drinks. The food has always been consistent. The other week I was hanging out at my parents and they decided to get take out, pork fried rice and chicken wings. Hot oniony fatty rice as always and the wings were ooeey gooey drenched in sauce. Another testament to them, my father has celiac's disease, and can eat their pork fried rice and chicken wings. Very rare for him to eat take out or comfort food. I used to be a fan of their egg foo young, lo main and chow main, but its been at least 10 years since I've had anything but fried rice and chicken wings. Actually on one last allergen note, their egg rolls used to and probably do still contain baby shrimp. I learned this the hard way with a group of high school friends.

I went there for my friends 21st birthday and no one was impressed by the food. It was all extremly greasy and way to salty to enjoy. Also, just a warning, if you order a chicken dish, or beef dish, off the part of the menu that says beef and chicken, there is no rice involved... at all... Just chicken/beef.

Awful food. The only thing you go here for is the drinks. The food use to be good but went south fast.

  • Ashlee S.

I think the food has seriously gone down hill over the last few years. This used to be one of my favorite places, now it's just a place I go when I don't feel like traveling. The drinks however are good and very strong, I'll get drinks with friends here on occasion and that can be fun, the food needs work.

Love the scorpion bowls and the waitresses! Great pupu platters and great place to be with friends.

Obviously the Wu is the best Chinese in RI. Their duck sauce is so good..better then any I've had anywhere. The oyster sauce is also on another lever, its thick and delicious and anything is good dipped in it. You can't go wrong here with what you order. Everything is above average. I love their beef teryaki, chicken fingers, general tao and best of all the crab rangoon are killin it. Also the drinks are on point..they are always mixed perfectly and hooked up on the liquor. Scorpion bowls are a must while dining in, it's like a Wu law. I have been eating here since I was like 3 and have loved it more and more since then. The prices are so great for what they ate dishing out and the restaurant itself is clean and comfortable. Always great service, you see the same faces again and again. Love.love.LoVe. H.O.W. !!!!!!!!

Not bad. It's generally pretty good to me. Never had an issue. But it isn't amazing. I continue to eat there, though.

House of Wu? More like House of Poo. (Sorry, that was completely juvenile, and I don't care - this place is awful.) I am not a native RI'er, and maybe that is part of the problem. To be fair, I'm very underwhelmed in general by the quality of Chinese restaurants in RI.However, what I've come to learn in my time living in Rhody that people here hang onto places, even when they aren't that good, because they have "been going there forever" or because "they are great for the area", etc. House of Wu is one of these places where the people of West Warwick eat there time and time again, perhaps because of an primal instinct to do so, but certainly it can't be because of the food. When trying a new Chinese restaurant, I find it best to stick to items you know you like, if nothing else, for comparison purposes. And, that's exactly what I did: General Tso's chicken and pork fried rice. Certainly nothing crazy. The chicken was mediocre at best, and certainly wasn't General Tso's as I've ever had it - tasted more like sesame chicken. The rice...I didn't realize I ordered "pork fat rice" because that's what I got. And, I've never in my life been to a Chinese restaurant that gave rolls - what kind of blasphemy is this?! I will not return. Ever. Sorry Rhode Island, but kick your Chinese food offerings up a notch for us outsiders.

Three generations of my family have been coming to this restaurant. What can I say besides that it is far and away THE best Chinese food I have ever had. The staff overall, is great. The teriyaki's, wonton soup, boneless spare ribs and General Tso's are excellent. The drinks are VERY strong. The only bad thing about this place is the clientele at the bar. Some pretty scummy people hang out here, but thats not the restaurants fault.

  • Kendra N.

Went there for take out, hadn't been in years. Their fried rice is one of the best I have had and the chicken lo mien was great, it had big mushrooms in it which I am a huge fan of. The egg roll I didn't like because it was that mushy red stuff, I like the ones with cabbage so don't get it is you are not into the red stuff...probably has a much more technical term but you should get my drift :)

I have been coming to this place for over 20 years. It used to be a great place to go for a drink and great food. However, the last time I was here Tosh.O was playing on the tv at the bar. Tosh was giving a blowjob to a fudgecicle... There was some random dude talking to himself and saying random things to random people and a gay couple commenting on how hot Tosh was. Then some old drunk lowlife chick thought it was appropriate to make inappropriate contact with me. Immediately after the old drunk chick thing, I asked for the check. When it came I said to the bartender, "This place has changed!" He looked at me apologetically and said, "Yaahh". One star for what it is. Two stars for what it was and the food. But seriously, one star for the clientele they attract now and lack of situational awareness.

  • Rob I.

The scorpion bowl will get you twelve dollars worth of "drunk". The jury is out on the taste. Kind of like half a gallon of orange juice and half a plastic bottle of vodka. The General Tso chicken is unique- fried chicken bites drizzled with a sweet dark ebony sauce. If you finish a scorpion bowl from this place, they could serve you a clump of dirt with duck sauce on it and you'd give it 5 stars. The scorpion bowl should come with a business card for a good DUI lawyer.

I was first a little iffy because it reminded me of the restaurant on Bridesmaids BUT BUT BUT its completely the opposite. The food, service and atmosphere is the best. Such a small town little haven . I recommend this place to anyone looking for some good Chinese food.

Folks this isn't your regular run of the mill Chinese restaurant, these guys take it above and beyond. Do yourself a favor and stop in, you won't regret it. We had three seated at our table including myself, ordered a little bit of everything, when the food came out of the kitchen, first thing I noticed, all was made from scratch. This is how it's supposed to be done. Living in Philadelphia, I am surrounded by solid Asian food... House of Wu blows away all that I found in Philly, only other time I've had Chinese this good was in San Francisco. Fresh is an understatement. From the service to the food, everything was top notch. Keep up the good work Wu!

I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. I have my specific favorites, and after trying many things, long ago narrowed down what I love. Since I no longer live in RI, but come back 3-4 times a year, I always come here at least 2 times, either to eat there or take out. I have never found the same quality of the food I am going to list ANYWHERE, and I lived in San Francisco next to Chinatown. Beef teryaki - awesome. have never had them anywhere else in the country even close. Egg rolls - perfect mix of veggies/pork/shrimp. Not a spring roll or variation, but an actual old fashoned egg roll. I have even brought them back to South Florida on the plane. BBQ spare ribs - not oversauced, but not dry. fabulous flavor- again- have not found them anywhere else. There is a restaurant, well known in Ft. Lauderdale that has the closest to matching them, but not the same. Wonton soup - no greens. Good soup, lots of pork and just good wontons. Never go without it. Chef Special Fried Rice (minus the ham)-great mix, full of flavor, not too much soy sauce in there, but enough, with egg that rivals the best in Chinatown at 1/2 the cost. They have good lunch specials, which are way under $11, but if you are getting appetizers and dinner and drinks, it may be you do spend more. Like I said, I can't vouch for the rest, it seems to be a popular place, and the exotic drinks are good. I will always come back here as long as it is open! It should be refurbished, but the food is worth the old and tired decor.

Great chinese food from a local business. Lot's of selection and good combos. Not my absolute favorite chinese place, but it's one I can trust will be good no matter what I order.

Had my birthday there last year, needless to say I don't remember a whole lot. This is bar none my favorite chinese american joint. They are professional clean and cheap. The food is excellent and the portions are huge. Haters can flex, this place is solid.

The last two times I've ordered it's been great. Granted I'm not a Chinese food expert and what I get isn't real chinese food. But the pork fried rice has been delicious. And the food has been hot!

Good cheap food.. Very good 'dark' rice, crispy fried chicken fingers, and very big portions for the price. -- I would definitely go back..

How do I write this without sounding rude? Ugh who care this place is always packed, I live less than a mile away, but I am soooo confused as to why. When we walked in it was loud so apparently they were drunk in the bar area. The place is clean service was good and friendly didnt take long to recieve the food. I think they should have taken a bit longer I would have been fine with that! The shrimp and broccoli smelled like a dirty diaper. The fried rice was halfway decent. The egg roll was decent. The chicken fingers and fries was blah as my 7 year old said. On another visit the beef abd broccoli was HORRIBLE what is it with beef at chinese food places??? Wait I just heard myself and realized maybe it ain't beef. Damnitman need to stop eating that asap! Rice was not good on this visit and I made the decision to NEVER visit this place again. I try to give places a few different tries just to be fair but I felt like taking my money and burning it on the grill would have been a better use than giving it to these people.

Not bad... not phenomenal, but not bad. :) It's all about the scorpian bowls anyway isn't it? :)

So, I came here with the BF and some friends on our way to Boston last week and seriously...I've been converted! If House of Wu was a dude, I'd make sweet love to it. The food is great, super fresh and delicious! We ordered...a lot...but that's beside the point...ok maybe it isn't but still - We grabbed the scallion pancakes, nam chow, wonton soup, chicken lo mein, szechuan spiced duck, and the treasure island...probably some rice and cokes too but who's counting?. Yeah, that's a lot. Needless to say, we had enough left overs to feed a small family for a week. Or 4 horrible gluttons for a day. The food comes to you piled high and fresh! Sometimes on fire! YES! We also decided to order a few 'bowls'...giant punch bowls of flowing booze. We ordered the 'Peachy Peachy', 'Wu Banger Melon' and the 'Jolly Rancher'. For the record: I held my liquor beautifully. Some people didn't, but I digress - the bowls are awesome! Our server was also awesome and although he wasn't nearly as funny as myself, was still pretty hilarious. All in all, how much do you think we paid for all of this majesty and wonder? Go ahead, guess? Yeah? No. We paid $80. $80 for enough booze and food to make the Pope cry. Ok, maybe not CRY, but still!

So we came here a few days after my boyfriend turned 21 so he could experience his first scorpion bowl. The waitress we got was hilarious and I think she got a kick out of us. There were four of us, all trying to decide which of the "bowls" we were going to get. On the menu, there is a whole section for "bowls" which include but are not limited to, Scorpion bowl, Volcano, Wu Banger, Strawberry Lava, Watermelon something.. and about 5 or 6 more. Naturally, we went with the Wu Banger, simply for the name. The name fits. Four of us sharing one bowl and we felt a good buzz. Not to mention it was delicious! I didn't get any food but my boyfriend got some kind of combo with teriyaki chicken, pork fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and a few other things. I picked off his plate, naturally, and it was really good! I found this place by literally searching "scorpion bowls" closest to his house in Warwick, and we found House of Wu. It was only a few minutes from his house and he had never even been there! We will definitely be back for more Wu Banger!

I used to love this place. It is great if you and your friends want to sit and get drunk with their over-alcoholized scorpion bowls, but the last few times I have eaten here, it made me sick. The first time I figured maybe it was just that what I ordered and it didn't agree with me. So, I gave them benefit of the doubt and tried again, ordering something new. Same issues. They're not entirely all that sanitary, the place is dingy and dirty, and if you check out the RI dept of Health website, you will see they have failed common sense sanitization inspections over the years. Thanks but no thanks. Never again.

Let me start off by saying that I live in West Warwick and I have been going to the House of Wu for many years. It is a great place for cocktails - if you can handle the Wu-Bangers! The food portions are out of this world - you always leave with loads of leftovers. At one point I would have told you this place was one of my favorites, however, in recent years (since I stopped drinking) I have noticed a couple of things; the food is not that good and the service is consistently mediocre at best. So let's wrap up this review..... * Food portions are huge but the food is not that good * Service is not that great * Great place to have a few drinks This place will probably always be around but it is probably better left to the locals - that would be a thumbs down.

Good service, good drinks, the food on the other hand is ehhhh but the first two parts almost make up for it.

Scorpion bowls for days. Everything else is just ok.

  • M A.

The portion sizes were incredible! I had leftovers for days! The crabrangoons are really good and were the best thing we ordered. My happy treasure or whatever it was called was very good! However, the spicy shrimp dish we ordered was not what we expected. It had a decent flavor, but it missed the mark. I would go back for the crabrangoons in a heartbeat and the drinks were well made!

Went here with friends to bring some "Wu virgins" to the house that Wu built. Not much as changed. For those that would like to get a tru experience, I shall provide a few tips: 1. The menu is big, but don't let that fool you. There are only a few things to eat. 2. Pu Pu platter is your first choice. Do not break this rule. Look around at what is being served if you don't believe me. Black, sticky chicken wings, tender beef teriyaki, and other miscellaneous heart attack inducing treats. 3. Fried Rice is your second choice. You can actually choose if you'd like beef, pork or whatever in your fried rice. Don't say I didn't give you options. 4. Scorpion bowls. This is not the place for teetotalers.

  • Katie W.

Not a bad place if you're looking for "Americanized" Chinese food. The portions are absolutely HUGE (their egg rolls have to be seen to be believed). The food is so-so... everything is smothered in soy sauce and oil (or deep fried). The Pu-Pu platter was exactly what you would expect - a delicious, flaming tray of fried and oiled meat. The egg drop soup tasted weird (or maybe I've just never had it with mushrooms before...?) I did like the pan fried dumplings. My personal test of a Chinese place is the white rice... theirs wasn't the best I've had, but it was pretty good. The service could be improved. Our waitress was nice enough, but didn't ask if we wanted drinks (not even tea) and messed up part of my order. Strangely, while we had 4 (identical) leftover containers, she crammed 3 of them into one plastic bag and put the other one by itself in bag #2... We also overheard other diners ask for a window seat, after which they were directed to a table as far away from the windows as possible. Overall, a three... although if 2.5 was an option, I'd probably have gone that way with it.

The House of Wu is the best Chinese American Restaurant in Rhode Island! Prices are reasonable with large portions and the menu has lots to offer. With a full bar, we often order the large Scorpian Bowl which is always refreshing. The food portions are large and delicious. Recommend for a starter the Chicken Fingers. The batter is exceptional. Try their homemade duck sauce or mouth watering gravy. Combination platters are available and management has no problems substituting other items. The marinated Beef Teriaki cannot be beat as well as the candied Chicken Wings. Management aims to please as well as their staff going above and beyond with great service. House of Wu is not hard to find and is only a couple of miles from interstate 95. Once you try it, you'll be hooked. For exceptional service, ask for Fanny or David. We've been patronizing the House of 30 years and just wish they had delivery at times.

The food here is ok. Very different from ANYTHING I've tasted before. For example the hot & sour soup and fried rice were not what I expected. This style of food is unlike any other. Portions are very large. I've tasted worse so I have to give three stars. Not bad just different.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
